A Message from Bobby Kirchner, BVCS Superintendent…..

You want to find a college/university that is the perfect fit. But how do you do that? Attending a college fair can be overwhelming. Where do you start? Visiting a college campus can be intimidating. What colleges should you visit? How should you spend your time? How can you afford tuition and housing?

Fortunately, Big Valley Christian School families are offered free personal college coaching and are walked through every step of the process. Our BVCS College Prep Department offers students and their parents personalized attention throughout the college application process – including college fairs and college campus visits.

For example, at the four-year college fair that took place recently in Modesto, our very own Teresa Perez and Cindy Alavezos were there to make sure that our Big Valley families got the most out of their experience. After arriving at the fair, which featured representatives from more than 45 four-year colleges and universities, our students and parents met up with Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Alavezos who then guided each family and served as personal tour guides.

“We encourage our students to visit at least one UC, one state school and one private school. But at the end of the day we know our students and we help connect them to the schools that we believe are the best fit for their interests. We take each family to each school, introduce them, get the conversation started and then go back and wait for the next student. After they finish chatting they come back and we take them to the next school. We are there to make sure our families get the most out of the experience,” commented Mrs. Alavezos.

In September and October, the College Prep department led two college visit tours: one in northern California and one in southern California. In addition to these two group tours, BVCS also hosted a College Info Night with six colleges represented to answer questions for our students.

Deadlines are looming for college applications, and our College Prep department has been busy assisting students and parents. At BVCS we realize the process of applying and getting into college can be a stressful and overwhelming experience for both students and parents, which is why we strive to reduce the stress through prayer, preparation, and partnership every step of the way.
