Remembering God’s Kingdom First
A few years ago, the BVCS staff received a powerful reminder from one of our very own Big Valley Christian School Board members: always remember to put God and His Kingdom first. This simple yet profound message resonated deeply, and we wanted to share an excerpt of that inspiring email with you today. The board member recounted the joy of spending extra time with four of their grandchildren who attend [...]

Why a Christ-Centered Preschool is the Best Start or your Preschooler
Why a Christ-Centered Preschool is the Best Start As the director of Big Valley Christian School's preschool, I've had the privilege of witnessing the incredible growth and blossoming of our youngest learners. These precious early years are a foundation upon which a lifetime of learning and faith is built. That's why we're so passionate about providing a Christ-centered preschool experience that nurtures both academic and spiritual development. Building a Strong [...]
Joseph’s Silence
If you were going to write a play based on the Christmas story you would notice that Mary would have a lot of lines, but Joseph wouldn’t have any. In fact, when you read through the gospels and look at the whole Christmas story, none of his words are written down. Joseph is completely silent. Since we can’t read his words, what can we learn from his actions? Now the [...]
Grateful in 2022
In 2021, Big Valley Christian School was able to provide 900 students (grades Preschool — 12th grade) with a Christian education, preparing them spiritually and academically to impact the world for Christ. We would not be able to carry out this critical work without our great staff, great families, and wonderful support from Big Valley Grace and the community. The last two years have been challenging, yet there is much [...]
Making History, Even When It’s Hard
March 2020 was a pivotal time in Big Valley Christian School’s history. Our team to make a choice: we could put our heads down in fear and defeat or dust ourselves off, lift our heads high, follow the Lord’s plan and make this moment in history our finest hour. Countless ups and downs, twists and turns, state and county mandates, recommendations, guidance documents, protocols, tiers, distance learning day camp, waivers, [...]
Celebrating God’s Faithfulness
How many of you can agree that March 2020 seems like a lifetime ago? As two weeks of closure quickly became the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, our staff jumped into action to provide educational and spiritual distance learning options for our Big Valley Christian School community. Countless ups and downs, twists and turns, state and county mandates, recommendations, guidance documents, protocols, tiers and meetings kept us busy, to [...]
Praying Like Jesus
How Jesus Prayed The picture above is from the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed before he was arrested. In the garden, a place that should represent peace and tranquility, Jesus poured out his heart in sorrow and anguish. In Matthew 26:39 Jesus prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." We see Jesus praying [...]
Will you help make an IMPACT this year?

Be – Message from Pastor Scott
How do your help your child be real? Someone once told me that you should always say exactly what you think and feel, but that you shouldn't always say everything you think and feel. Let's face it... Junior High is hard! It's a time when feelings seem more important than facts and everyday can feel like an emotional roller-coaster. We want our students to learn how to be authentic Christ [...]
Search Me – Message from Pastor Scott
An Open Invitation Have you ever been searched? I remember how uncomfortable I was the first time I got patted down in an international airport. Being searched is invasive and uncomfortable, but it's also necessary sometimes. In Psalm 139, David invites God to search his heart and his thoughts. This is such a great prayer, but also a scary one! We should probably all pause more often and ask God [...]
Are You Ready? – Family Email March 13, 2019
Are You Ready? I recently met a family who had to flee from their home country because it had become too dangerous for them to stay there as Christians. I saw a list a few weeks ago of the fifty most dangerous countries in the world for Christians, and it is very sobering. In Acts 21, as Paul was preparing to go to Jerusalem, people kept warning him not [...]

The Importance of Accuracy – Family Email February 6, 2019
The Importance of Accuracy In Acts 18 we get introduced to a man named Apollos. He was a well educated man and he knew about Jesus, but his information was incomplete. Fortunately for him, there were people listening to his message and willing to share more about Jesus. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him [...]
529 Plans – Education Savings Plans
The tax overhaul bill passed by Congress in December 2017 provided a change to the College 529 plans. Formerly, these plans only provided preferential tax treatment of account distributions if the money was used for higher education. The new tax bill now allows tax-free distributions for primary and secondary private education for up to $10,000 per plan beneficiary. Distributions are paid to the owner/trustee of the account and are for [...]
Family Routines That Build Faith
It is important to celebrate the big moments in our children’s lives. But beyond recognizing milestones, simple routines can also have big significance in the life of a child or teen. The little ways a family engages faith together have major impact. We can come up with a lot of great ideas from the examples in scripture. Listed below are some of those ideas. I’d like to encourage you to read [...]

We wanted to share with our school [...]
How does BVCS address the Common Core standards?
The introduction of the Common Core State Standards has generated much interest and controversy in recent years. These standards, created at the initiative of governors’ and state school chiefs’ organizations, were released in 2010 and are written for each grade level K-12 in the areas of mathematics and English. Most states, including California, have adopted these standards. The phrase “Common Core” has been used in a variety of ways, at [...]
